This notice explains what happens to personal information when you use swiftcentre.org. It covers visitors to the website and people who send us an enquiry through it. It does not cover our work with clients, our forecasters, or job applicants — those are separate.
The website is run by Swift Centre Research Ltd (registered in England and Wales, company number 14003610), and Swift Centre Research Ltd is the data controller for everything described here. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZB414304. You can reach us at info@swiftcentre.org, or by post at 102 Fulham Palace Road, London W6 9PL, England.
The short version
We collect very little. The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics, shows no advertising and makes no requests to other companies' servers. If you don't contact us, we don't learn anything about you that we keep.
If you do send an enquiry, it arrives with us as an email and we keep it as part of our business correspondence.
What we collect
If you send an enquiry. The forms on this site ask for your name and email address, and — depending on which form you use — your company, the kind of work you're interested in, and whatever you write in the message box. That is all we ask for and all we receive.
Each form also contains a hidden field that only automated bots tend to fill in. If it is filled in, the enquiry is discarded rather than sent to us. Nothing about you is recorded either way.
If you just read the site. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, as any web host does — the address your request came from, what was requested and when. These are a technical by-product of serving the page, used for security and to keep the site working. We don't build profiles from them and don't combine them with anything else.
What we don't collect. No cookies of our own. No analytics of any kind. No advertising or tracking pixels. No accounts, passwords or logins. No location data. No information bought or received from third parties.
Why we're allowed to do this
Under UK data protection law we need a lawful basis for handling your information.
For replying to your enquiry, we rely on legitimate interests, or on taking steps towards a contract where your enquiry is about working together. Either way, it amounts to the same thing: you contacted us, and we use your details to reply and to keep a record of the conversation.
For keeping the site secure and working, we rely on legitimate interests.
We do not send marketing emails from this website, so we don't need your consent for any of it.
Who else sees it
We keep the list short deliberately.
- Google Workspace — our email. Enquiries arrive and are stored here.
- Resend — the service that delivers the form's contents to our mailbox. It handles the message in transit; it isn't a copy we keep there.
- Railway — hosts the website and produces the server logs described above.
We may add your details to an internal list of business contacts, kept in our own Google Workspace, where we expect to be in touch again.
We don't sell your information, share it for anyone else's marketing, or pass it to anyone not listed above — except where we're legally required to, or need to in order to establish or defend a legal claim.
Some of these providers are based outside the UK, or store data outside it, which means your information may be transferred abroad. Where that happens we rely on the providers' own data protection commitments and the safeguards permitted under UK law.
The newsletter
Our newsletter, Swift Centre: Highlights, is published on Substack. Subscribing happens on Substack's own website, and your subscription and email address are held by Substack under their privacy policy, not ours. We can see who our subscribers are through Substack, but we don't collect subscriptions on this site and we don't add anyone to the newsletter ourselves.
The charts in our archive
Some articles in our archive include interactive charts. Most are served from viz.swiftcentre.org, which is ours. A few older ones are images that link to app.swiftcentre.org — also ours, but a separate application with its own privacy arrangements, so it may set cookies of its own if you follow one of those links.
How long we keep it
Enquiries stay in our email as part of our business records. We don't currently delete them on a fixed schedule, because they form the history of who we've spoken to and about what. Server logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider and then discarded.
If you'd rather we deleted your correspondence, ask us and we will, unless we need to keep it for a legal reason.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete it
- stop or limit what we're doing with it
- object to us handling it on the basis of legitimate interests
- provide it in a portable form, where that applies
Just email info@swiftcentre.org. We'll respond within one month. There's no charge, and we may ask you to confirm who you are before we act — only ever using information we already hold.
We make no automated decisions about you, and we do no profiling.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first — we'd rather hear it and put it right. You can also complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. If you are in the EU or EEA, you can complain to your own national data protection authority instead.
Children
The website is aimed at organisations and professionals, not children, and we don't knowingly collect information about anyone under 13. If you think we have, please tell us and we'll delete it.
Security
Enquiries reach us over an encrypted connection and are stored in Google Workspace, with access limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise — but we hold very little, which is the best protection there is.
Changes
If we change what we do, we'll change this notice and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so plainly rather than quietly editing.
